Compression is a broad and vague term, used by sportswear brands all over the world as a way to sell their products. At RVE we wanted to redefine what compression is all about. Our goal was to develop a product that is unique, backed up by research and actually delivering what we claim. You don’t have to believe what we tell you, just trust the science.

Our research was conducted at the Sports & Science Laboratory- Jacques Rogge at Ghent University which is ranked as one of the top 10 sports & science universities in the world. The research was primarily focused on runners and finding out what the effect would be of the RVE compression on their performance and recovery. 5 different compression conditions were tested during which both subjective and physiological parameters were registered. The results of the research showed that the RVE technology clearly enhances an athlete’s performance and decreases his rate of perceived exertion.

Tests were conducted at speeds of 10KM/H and 12KM/H.

Running economy measures a runners’ energy utilization when running at an aerobic speed. It is measured in ml O2/(km.kg) Those who are able to consume less oxygen while running at a given velocity are said to have a better running economy. This means that with an RVE product you will use significantly less energy to maintain a certain speed and therefore will be able to cover a greater distance with the same amount of energy.

DECREASE IN RATE OF PERCEIVED EXERTION

Tests were conducted during a high intensity run.

The Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) is measured using the Borg Scale. It runs from 6 (no exertion at all) to 20 (Maximal exertion) and is a way to measure the physical activity intensity level. It is based on the physical sensations a person experiences during physical activity, including increased heart rate, increased respiration or breathing rate, increased sweating, and muscle fatigue. Although this is a subjective measure it may provide a fairly good estimate of your actual heart rate during physical activity.

WHAT ARE CK VALUES

CK or creatine kinase is an enzyme that leaks out of damaged muscle. It is often used as a marker to indicate muscle damage. When elevated CK levels are found in a blood sample, it usually means muscle is being destroyed. So it’s very important to keep this value as low as possible. The RVE technology enables athletes to keep their intensive training schedule while minimising the risk of muscle damage.

DECREASE IN DOMS

Trend to Lower DOMS

DOMS or Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a subjective marker (on a scale of 1-10) to measure the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise. The soreness is felt most strongly 24 to 72 hours after the exercise and can be decreased with the right amount of compression.
